global tolerance weekly round up 19-09-2011/25-09-2011

Every Friday we round up the week by posting 5 things that captured our attention. It can be about a news item, event, inspirational documentary, great comment piece or anything else on a wide variety of topics that we find interesting or care about.

1. PUMA Announces New Annual PUMA. Peace Film Commission for World Peace Day - Selected by Scott: Some amazing short videos created by some talented individuals; who were commissioned by PUMA to use the arts to create short films, which are based on the concept that “peace starts with me”.
2. Dalai Lama in 'no hurry' to decide on successor- Selected by Simon. Interesting and provocative commentary. What are your views on reincarnation?
3. The Israel-Palestine debate - Selected by Scott: A great visual created by the Guardian; which shows the countries that already recognize Palestine as a state, and the proportion of the world’s population and economy they account for.
4. The Global Competitiveness Report 2011-2012 - Selected by Tessa: this report comes out amid multiple challenges to the global economy and a continuing shift in the balance of economic activity away from advanced economies and toward emerging markets. What will the ranking look like in a few years time?
5.The death penalty debate - Selected by Scott:  This week saw the execution of Troy Davis; which once again brought up the debate around the ethics of the death penalty, this timely piece from the Telegraph explores the question in detail and goes into some of the ins and outs.
