What kind of saying, thought or quote do you like?

Last week at the global tolerance office we raised the question 'what kind of saying, thought or quote do you like?'. This question is very broad and results in very diverse answers but that makes it interesting. I thought I would share one of my thoughts:

'Wat u niet wil dat u geschiedt doe dat ook een ander niet'. You might wonder which language this is and what it means. The language is Dutch and the line describes the Golden rule; 'one should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself'. I remember my mum telling me this when I was young and it really hit home. It is a very simple sentence but the impact of actually living accordingly is massive.

Please share your thoughts!

Thank you Tessa for this. Some of these quotes are very inspiring and have a lot of lessons. I have two quotes that I usually like. One by Mahatma Ghadhi and is in one of my T-Shirts specifically made to capture the quote. And it goes simply..."my life is my message". This quote challenges people whether their lives will have any message at all to anyone. Another quote is a signature to my yahoo email is long and goes....
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.' We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." It was originaly done by Marianne Williamson but qouted later by Nelson Mandela in his speech.
'True happiness lies in not having what you want, but wanting what you have' Unknown
Oscar Wilde's last words - As he was lying on his death bed in a room with ugly wallpapers, he apparently said "One of us has to go".
'Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always in effectiveness.  Conscerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.  All sorts of things occur to help one that would otherwise never have occurred.  A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.  "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.  Boldness has genius, power and magic in it." ' W H Murray quoting Goethe.
The grass is always greener on the other side...
I'll try to translate it into English...it's a quote from Nise da Silveira (1905-1999), a pioneer woman who revolutionized psychiatric treatment in Brazil using art instead of heavy medication and electric shocks.
"To swim against the flow, rare conditions are necessary: and adventurer spirit; courage; perseverance; and passion."
