Internet Bubble Threat

While the Internet allows me to connect with you, it also limits what I get to see.  How? By analyzing  what I am looking for, accumulating my preferences and measuring data that the system has decided I like? Eli Pariser, author of "The Filter Bubble: What the Internet Is Hiding from You" explains the dangers of what we see quite well in his book.  I've tested this theory thoroughly as I teach Internet research skills all over the country. I draw from my background as a former newspaper…See More

Well our tomato plant is doing well so with any luck we will be able to eat some office grown tomatoes soon! Would be great if we could have our own little vegetable plot on the deck of the boat :-) Maybe next year spring!  That’s nice-…

Let's all plant something

Thumbnail
Think about planting something, anything, that is green and will grow.  I have the room to plant fruit trees so I can share the fruit with the homeless and the hungry. But, everyone can plant something--large or small. All plants make a difference in our lives and the world around us.Plants clean our air as well as improve the quality of our lives. Even a small plant in a pot makes a difference. So, think about this, please.  See More

This is an important thing to do: Plant trees, all kind of trees. We are losing so much of our oxygen-giving organisms every day.   I plant fruit trees, a new one every year. My perspective on "Plant for the Planet" comes from idea of…

Hi Simon:   Interesting post. You make some excellent points here.    My take-away here is a question regarding the difference between "journalism" and public relations. Why did I put journalism is quotations? Because I hear…

I completely agree with the fact that we should eat more locally grown food both on a very small scale within in neighbourhoods as well as countries becoming more self sufficient by producing a diverse set of crops instead of just…

Feed Locally

Hi Everyone: I believe helping locally as well as globally makes a difference.  I'm passionate about eradicating hunger wherever I can. I see waste all around me thatcan change. How? By harvesting backyard fruit. There is enough backyard fruit where I live, San Francisco Bay Area, to feed the entire state. Many people own and rent homes and apartments that were built over fruit orchards. They don't know what to do with the fruit or can't use it all, so often it just goes to waste.  It can be…See More

the organisation I work for is...

its mission is to...
Feed the homeless and the hungry by harvesting backyard and local fruit throughout the San Francisco Bay Area

my story so far
My mother was raised in an orphanage. She felt very lucky to have been well cared for and so spent her life giving back where she could. We were not rich so Mom worked full time. However, working never interfered with her commitment to volunteer for organizations she believed needed her help. She didn't just write checks. She was the foot soldier.
I was raised with this example of how much need is out there, so her values were passed on to me. I have been involved in helping people less fortunate that I, working to cross cultural barriers to help make the world a better place. That is my mission.
ask me 'why global tolerance?' and I will answer
I would like to see us go beyond tolerance to celebration of our unique cultures. We all have the same needs in life. We approach them based on our cultural training, however the needs are the same and this is what we should understand about each other: Our goals are the same and we can learn and celebrate these things together.
the one thing I would change in the world is...
eliminating hunger.
I'm passionate about...
Using our enormous and wasted natural resources. There is so much waste that could be harnessed, such as in my own little corner of the world. We have enough "backyard fruit" to see the state of California, yet unless we harvest it, it goes rotten and uneaten.
connect with me to talk about...
Writing and working for Global Tolerance. I want to make a difference.
