An estate growing project in Dalston looks for funding, but will funders allow them to pay people or just more soil?

The leaves might be curling from the apple trees and the last of the raspberries have been snatched but a project on the estate where I live (a housing estate, not a 'stately' estate) to develop the skills in growing food is starting to blossom.

Accessing funds for wood and soil has proved relatively easy. We are an estate with in a high profile location, right next to a new development of residential flats, we also have a group of people enthusiastic to lead a growing project.

To meet our ambitions to skill up the local children and adults to create well used and productive growing spaces we would like to raise £10k a year for the next 3 years to pay local people to commit to manage and lead our growing clubs.

All advice on:

- funds for growing club workers

- academics  / researchers looking at social impact of growing club / food gardening in urban area.

Yippee! We have just received our first 2 grants...bringing us up to £1,500. That's enough to get our winter preparation started, initial recruitment of helpers and volunteers and the paperwork done (there's a lot of health & safety to be done).
